All rationales/comments are left unedited, just like they were typed in response to the Survey Question # 15 below:
In your professional opinion, should every ICU nurse be given an opportunity to learn the Action Team workflow and to perform in a role of Action Team RN?
- I don’t think every nurse is able to it but with proper training that will take many hours to help them get up to speed.
- Not every nurse have the specific skill set, personality and ability to communicate effectively as an action nurse in high stress situations outside of the ICU.
- I’m competent enough to be part of an Action Team cause I’ve been an ACTION TEAM RN in Mercy San Juan Medical Center (my 2nd job) for the last 5 years.
- as long as this ICU nurse is interested to take up the role as an action nurse.
- ICU RN should have opportunities to learn. Rn willingness to step up is positive for the team.
- N/A
- If RN is willing to learn and given the opportunity to further enhance his/ her professional skills, the person should be given a chance or opportunity as long as he meets the unit standards to be break relief or action team ! Further enhancement and learning is not for only certain people or this will create exclusivity and unfairness ! This is not a good Culture to enhance and practice.
- Maybe if the Rn is willing to do the job.
- By choice only
- Being an action team or any other role should be offered to any willing ICU staff, with proper orientation and education. It is fair not to presume an ICU nurse incapable of being an Action Team unless proven otherwise.
- Not ever nurse has received education in regards to assessing pre-sepsis patients and may not feel comfortable in a role that requires context shift constantly and who do not know the clearly defined role to prevent abuse from management, putting them in non action, nurse roles. Usually managers quickly find out who they can exploit to perform outside actions that renders the nurse liable because they haven’t had time to research and perform their designated duty.
- My previous hospital rotated, however, you could choose to be on an opt out list if you would like, and it worked really well.
- Learning to do action team and being capable of doing are two different things.
- I believe that not everyone is capable and rather there should be training opportunities for those that are interested.
- There. Should be willingness to do it. You cannot force anybody to do it if they don’t want to.
- But here i feel like action team & neuro committee , support role is control by its lead in day shift.
- I think all nurses should be afforded the opportunity to learn the action team workflow, but I do not believe that all ICU RNs are capable of being an action nurse.
- I think the opportunity should be given to all who want to learn action team but not enforced.
- Whoever is interested voluntarily.
- Yes, I think every ICU RN should be given an opportunity to learn and it’s up to them to continue doing the role if they like or wants to be opt out.
- It should be for those who wish to fulfill the position. Or if one is recommended to do the role and is willing to do so.
- Opportunity should be provided especially those Rn with many years of experience.
- Some nurses are stronger than others, I would want someone who is capable if it were my family or friend in a code situation, but I do agree that more than a few nurses are capable of doing the action team role.
- I welcome the opportunity to learn this, but before I take it on I want to be more comfortable in this work environment.
- Help us all improve skills, increase our competency as a team. “Mock code blues” could be an option as well.
- Not all ICU RNs would like to be considered for Action Team role.
- Everyone has the opportunity. I believe there are nurses in this unit that intimidate others and bully them to doing things or agreeing with them at the risk of retaliation.
- Every nurse who is interested in Action Team should have the opportunity to perform the role. If the nurse chooses not to participate they should not be forced to.
- Should be limited because not everyone has the same skills or excel in this job <br>I do not want to be compared to anyone – I am not just like “ someone else “ . My skills are excellent , it is sad that many are not.
- The Action team role is crucial and must be performed by RNs who are confident and capable in executing these responsibilities.
- Those that are interested, should he able to learn a new skill.
